The Renato Musto Award dedicated to a scientist and intellectual by the multifaceted cultural interests and passions, aims to give continuity to the project of Renato Musto that aspired to combine humanistic, social and artistic knowledge with that of scientific research.

The award is also a recognition of the efforts of a man who strongly believed and invested in the training of young talents.

The Renato Musto Award (2017 edition): Vision and Ophthalmology, will be dedicated to studies on the diagnosis, treatment and/or rehabilitation of inherited eye diseases with cellular, molecular biology and/or technological experimental approaches. 

The award consists of certificate and a prize summing up to  € 1.500 (Fifteen hundred Euro), considered gross of any withholdings required by law, provided by Prof. Eliana Minicozzi to the candidate judged to be the most deserving.

The choice of the winner will be based on Curriculum vitae and the excellence and originality of the research work, documented by publications and the specific contributions of the candidate.

Following the disclosure of the award, the winner must promptly send response of acceptance  to the address This email address is being protected from spambots. The winner must also accept to hold a seminar at the ceremony that will take place on Friday 20 October 2017 at the Complex of the SS. Marcellino e Festo in Naples within the Congress of the Italian Society of Genetic Ophthalmology. If the candidate declines acceptance, the Commission reserves the right to award the prize to the second in ranking. The Commission also reserves the right not to award the prize if no competitors satisfy the requirements of excellence. 

Requirements for participation

Candidates must be:

1. Italian or have carried out their research activities in Italy from 2013

2. younger than 39 years old at the date of application

3. willing to present the research activity at a seminar to be held on 20 October 2017, on the occasion of the award, as indicated above.

Each applicant intending to participate must send his/her application to the President of the Commission, Prof. Francesca Simonelli, at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., no later than Friday 30 June 2017, and must include the following documents in .doc or .pdf format:

1. biographical data of the candidate

2. general information and contact details (postal address and e-mail, phone and fax of the candidate)

3. current scientific affiliation

4. explicit declaration of consent to the processing of personal data.

The application must be accompanied by the following documentation:

1. Curriculum vitae  (in English) with a list of publications (for each publication indicate impact factor and citation count), signed by the applicant

2. Short summary (max 2500 characters in English) in .doc or .pdf format of the research activity within the scientific background

3. A maximum of two papers, in .pdf format, published or accepted (with appropriate certification) before the expiration date of application.

4. Photocopy of a valid ID.

The submission of the application and accompanying documentation implies acceptance by candidates of all the rules expressed in this announcement.

 

Exclusion conditions

Spouses and relatives (up to third degree) of members of the Commission and/or the organizing committee cannot participate in the selection.

Incomplete applications or applications from candidates without the specific requirements will not be considered. Materials not required will not be reviewed.

The commission's decision is final.
